Our Mission & Identity

Our Mission & Identity

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

- Matthew 28:18-20 ESV

In these last words of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew, we find both the foundation for our identity as Christians and our mission as the Church.

Our Mission

The mission Jesus gives His church is to make disciples who make disciples. Therefore, this is the mission of The Chapel | Kenmore.

Our Identity

As Jesus calls us into the mission of disciple-making, baptism (in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) stands as the symbol of our new identity in The Gospel. We summarize this new identity with the words Family-Disciple-Missionary, as each relates to our Gospel identity.

Family – With God as our Father, we are a part of His family. Therefore, we seek to live as a spiritual family of brothers and sisters together. We care for, encourage, lift up, support, challenge, help, and love each other as a family.

Disciple – With Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are His disciples. Disciples of Jesus confess Him as their Messiah (Matthew 16:16) and seek to learn to submit all their life to Him as their King.

Missionary – With the Holy Spirit we are sent (John 20:21) and empowered to live as God’s witnesses in the world (Acts 1:8) to pursue the mission of making disciples (Matthew 28:18 – 20). Therefore, we seek to live with intentionality in all of life, serving to point people towards the truth and hope of The Gospel.

It is these three elements that we believe lie at the heart of our identity as Christians.

Therefore, we seek to be a church that pursues God’s mission of making disciples by developing missional communities that help train us to live all of life in relation to our identity in Jesus.
